Atlanta, GA, May 27, 2022 – Fernbank is beating the heat with three months of a Dino-mite Summer! Guests are invited to learn about the prehistoric stars of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, from dinosaurs to flying reptiles, through immersive exhibits, activity days, giant screen films and more!
Fernbank’s Dino-mite Summer is kicking off with Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family on June 11, introducing visitors to the family tree of the chomping, stomping tyrannosaurs. The exhibit features a number of different tyrannosaurs and focuses on the evolution that took place over time. Patrons will have the chance to see what it would be like if these dinosaurs were alive today, with immersive activities that allow audiences to engage with the species via an augmented reality experience. Some of the exciting experiences include a projection tunnel depicting dinosaurs walking throughout Atlanta and the chance to hatch a virtual dinosaur egg. With over 30 objects on display, including fossils and a life-size T. rex skeleton, Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family is sure to entertain dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages. This exhibit is on display through September 5.
The Take on the Tyrannosaurs discovery day on June 11 serves as the opening day celebration for Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family. Perfect for families, this programming day offers a variety of dinosaur-themed activities, including the chance to Ask A Paleontologist your pressing dinosaur questions, try dinosaur hopscotch, create-your-own dinosaur finger puppets, and the chance to meet Fernbank’s dinosaur mascot, Giggy!
Dinosaurs of Antarctica is also showing in Fernbank’s Giant Screen Theater during the month of June. Join scientists as they rediscover the lush paradise that once grew upon Antarctica’s now famously frozen tundra and the dinosaurs that called the continent home. Visitors can also head to the permanent exhibition A Walk Through Time in Georgia, where they can see a model of what our home-state looked like when dinosaurs once roamed the earth. The Giants of the Mesozoic exhibit also showcases some of the world’s largest dinosaurs, the Giganotosaurus and Argentinosaurus. Fernbank’s Dinosaur Birthday Bash on August 21 celebrates the anniversary of the date when Giants of the Mesozoic first opened to the public in 2001, featuring family-friendly, dinosaur-themed experiences.
Visitors can visit Fernbank’s Dino-mite Summer webpage to explore all of the dinosaur and summer-themed activities Fernbank has to offer.
Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family is developed by the Australian Museum and toured internationally by Flying Fish.
Dinosaurs of Antarctica is sponsored locally by Isdell Family Foundation.
