Conquistador’s Wake: An Archaeological Look at Native American – Spanish Interactions in South Georgia

Join Dr. Dennis Blanton as he discusses archaeological evidence of the first European intrusions into South Georgia’s Native American realms. The presentation will explain the outcome of two long-running research projects sponsored by Fernbank Museum of Natural History that have documented clues of the infamous conquistador, Hernando de Soto, as well as Spanish missionaries. This event coincides with the release of Blanton’s new book, Conquistador’s Wake: Tracking the Legacy of Hernando de Soto in the Indigenous Southeast. A book signing will immediately follow the lecture.
