Field Trip Prices and Policies

Field trip prices are available to Pre-K-12th grade schools (public and private), daycares, homeschool groups (with a homeschool letter of intent) and colleges/universities. The prices listed below are valid for groups of 10 more with 48-hour advance reservations. All other groups, click here.

Booking a field trip to Fernbank Museum is easy! You can make reservations online or contact us at 404.929.6320 or fieldtrips@fernbankmuseum.org.

Deposit Policy

A 50% deposit is required two weeks prior to the day of your field trip. Your deposit is fully refundable if the trip is canceled at least one week in advance. Trips canceled less than one week from the reservation date are subject to forfeiture of deposit. Your deposit will be applied to your total balance, and the remaining balance will be due prior to or upon arrival.

**Please Note: Estimated times do not include breaks between activities, lunch, store visits or travel time to/from the Museum. Add an additional 1 hour, 30 minutes if you wish to tour Fernbank Forest. Program lengths vary by grade level. If your trip will include a lunch break, we suggest you allow an additional 45 minutes.

Chaperone Field Trip Prices

Adult chaperones are given complimentary admission on a ratio of 1 adult to 10 students. Additional adults that are included in the field trip reservation are admitted at the discounted rates of: Museum $16; Giant Screen Movie $11; Museum & Giant Screen Movie $24; Museum & School Program $20; Giant Screen Movie & School Program $15; Museum, Giant Screen Movie & School Program $28. All persons not included in the reservation must purchase tickets at individual admission rates on a space-available basis. School Programs are not available for same-day purchase. Bus drivers receive complimentary Museum admission only; Giant Screen Movie and School Program admission must be purchased separately. Please include the number of bus drivers in your reservation and final head count at check-in. If your group has less than 10 students, adults must pay individual admission rates. 

Scholarships

Fernbank Museum is honored to receive funding from generous corporations, foundations and individuals to help subsidize admissions for underserved students through the Museum Access Scholarship Program.

Field Trip Policies

For a safe and enjoyable visit, please follow the following policies during your visit to Fernbank Museum of Natural History. We reserve the right to ask any disorderly guest to leave the campus. Under those circumstances, refunds will not be given.

Deposits, Cancellations, and Refunds

  • A 50% deposit is required 2 weeks prior to the day of your field trip. Your deposit is fully refundable if the trip is canceled at least 1 week in advance. Trips canceled less than 1 week from the reservation date are subject to forfeiture of deposit.
  • Your deposit will be applied to your total balance, and the remaining balance will be due upon arrival. If the deposit deadline cannot be met, you must call 404.929.6320 to speak with a Field Trip Team member for further options.
  • If scheduling within 2 weeks of arrival, your deposit is due at the time of booking.
  • Overpayment made by check will be returned to the school by mail within 4 to 6 weeks. Payments made by credit card will be refunded directly to the card used for initial payment. If both check and credit card are used to make payments, the school’s bookkeeper will be contacted for instructions on refund preference.
  • No refunds will be granted if you miss any or all of your scheduled field trip.
  • Final receipt will be emailed to the fieldtrip coordinator following the visit.

Late Arrivals

  • Plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your first activity to allow adequate time for check-in and wristband distribution.
  • Giant screen movies and educator-led programs must begin at the published start time. To prevent disruption to other visitors, as well as for safety precautions in the theater, groups will not be seated after the movie has begun.

Wristbands

  • In lieu of tickets, field trip groups are given color-coded wristbands. The group leader is responsible for making sure they receive the correct number of wristbands at check-in.
  • All members of your group are required to wear wristbands for the duration of your visit. You will need to show wristbands for entrance into the Museum and/or Giant Screen Theater. If your group needs to leave the Museum for any reason (pick up something off the bus, etc.), your wristband will allow re-entry into the Museum.
  • Wristbands are valid same-day only and are not replaceable if lost or stolen.

Chaperones

  • A minimum of 1 adult chaperone for every 10 students is required for all field trips.
  • Chaperones are required to stay with students at all times, regardless of age/grade. Students found without the supervision of a chaperone will be not be allowed to enter exhibits, programs, and or/the theater.

Behavior

  • Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of their students at all times during the visit. Please remind students to refrain from running or yelling, and to respect the “no touching” policies in place within certain exhibits and Museum areas.
  • Students should use considerate “museum voices” both inside the Museum and on the Museum campus to allow for enjoyable experiences of other guests and neighbors.
  • Use of skateboards, roller-skates, and Heelys® is strictly prohibited while in the Museum and on the Museum campus.
  • The entire Fernbank campus is nicotine free. E-cigarettes are not permitted.
  • We reserve the right to ask any disorderly members of your group to leave the building. Under this circumstance, a refund will not be granted.

Exhibit Access

  • Some exhibits are limited by space and grade level. Fernbank Nature Quest is available to chaperoned students in Pre-K-4th Nature Stories is available to chaperoned students Pre-K-3rd grade students and Adventure Outpost is for 4-6th graders.
  • Access to all exhibits on a space available, first-come, first-served basis.

Outdoor Guidelines

  • The natural world is home to stinging insects, poison ivy and snakes. Please be mindful and stay on the trails to protect yourself and sensitive habitats. Do not wade or swim in creeks, ponds or other water features.
  • Leave the natural environment for everyone to enjoy. Do not collect, remove or handle natural items and living things.

Elevator

  • Please use the elevator only in cases of physical need or to transport lunches so guests who require the assistance of the elevator may use it in a timely manner.

Photography

  • Fernbank Museum and the media frequently take photos and/or videos of guests. These images may be used for promotional purposes whatsoever in perpetuity and without compensation. If you do not wish to be photographed, please notify the photographer.
  • Personal photography and limited personal filming (using iPhone or equivalent) is permitted with paid Museum admission, except in the Giant Screen Theater or in certain exhibits designated as no photography areas.

Smoking Policy

  • Fernbank is a nicotine-free campus. Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is not allowed on or around the Museum campus and parking lots.
