As part of the new STEAM-Powered Communities Initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), Fernbank partners with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), the Boys and Girls Club of Atlanta and the Center for Pan Asian Community Services to present a high-quality afterschool program that advances science achievement among underserved 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.
Science Explorers plays a critical role in the community by extending the school day with science and art enrichment education. Conducted in a safe learning environment, instruction is led by Fernbank experts and incorporates the scientific method to explore a wide variety of themes. Interactive visits to the Museum showcase guided experiences, demonstrations, hands-on activities and discussions to invigorate science inquiry. Following each afterschool session, participating students receive tickets granting both Museum admission and access to a giant screen movie with a goal to increase family involvement in science learning.
