Fernbank’s Forest Hike Preparation Guide

Thank you for joining Fernbank Museum for a Forest Hike. Get ready for a tree-mendous time! Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Before your hike:

• Check the weather and dress accordingly. Forest Hikes are rain or shine, except in the event of hazardous* weather.
• Bring comfortable walking shoes. Fernbank Forest has a lot of rugged beauty, meaning some rough terrain is expected.
• The walk will cover about 2 miles of trails. Please note that the terrain is uneven and steep at times. Trails are not ADA accessible. This hike is not suitable for strollers.
• Bring water! Staying hydrated will keep you feeling great.
• Vending machines and water fountains are available in the museum lobby. Day of the hike:
• Please be sure to arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. We will meet in the museum lobby.
• The hike lasts two hours, and timing may vary depending on the group's general pace.

*In the instance of hazardous weather, Fernbank will notify you by email by noon the day prior to the Forest Hike and issue a refund.

What does Fernbank Museum consider hazardous weather?

• Alerts of warnings and advisories from the National Weather Service.
• Severe thunderstorms, floods, severe winter weather, high winds, heat index values reaching 95 degrees or higher.
