Celebrate the last full month of Summer at Fernbank!

Summer is winding down (though the temperatures aren’t!), and we have plenty for you to do at Fernbank. Whether you’re looking for a staycation, need somewhere new to unwind, or in town for DragonCon, there’s always something new to do.

Get Outside

It’s still hot outside, but we have a cool tree canopy that helps with the heat (mostly). Whether you’re out exploring the excitement of WildWoods, viewing the larger-than-life photographs of Extinct & Endangered, or taking in the calm serenity of Fernbank Forest, you’ll find all the best nature has to offer – right in the heart of the city.

Prefer to stay inside? We have three floors of permanent exhibits, all located in the air-conditioning. Let your kids play in NatureQuest, an indoor playground of epic proportions; explore science in Fantastic Forces, or stand in awe of the Giants of the Mesozoic. And don’t miss Turtles, our special traveling exhibit on view until Sept. 7 (extended by popular demand!). This exhibit features hands-on activities, live turtle habitats, and daily animal presentations where you can learn about these incredible species.

Movies Have Gone to the Dogs

August is National Dog Month, and we have just the movie! Superpower Dogs has taken over the Giant Screen Theater, featuring six real-life canine heroes and their human partners as they take on everything from avalanches to poachers. Want to travel under the sea instead? Check out Coral Sea, where you can learn about the research and conservation efforts of green sea turtles. Both films are showing daily and the theater is the perfect place to cool down after a hot summer trek.

Fernbank is Open From Morning to Night

Did you know that Fernbank is open from early morning to late night (on select dates)? Join us for an adult late-night adventure with Fernbank After Dark or a chill summer evening with friends and family at Fernbank…but LATER. More of an early bird? Catch a Birds Georgia Forest Walk or Morning Hike. Need a quieter space to enjoy the museum? Check out a Sensory Morning. We have an event for everyone, all listed on our calendar of events.
