Fernbank is all about the All-Stars

MLB All-Star Week is happening soon in Atlanta at Truist Park – home of the Atlanta Braves. We here at Fernbank are big baseball nerds (physics and math? Yes, please!) and there are lots of things that relate to baseball right here in the museum. In our Reflections of Culture exhibit, you can view an authentic Atlanta Braves uniform or interact with physics in Fantastic Forces, where you can explore gravity, aerodynamics, centripetal force and more.

We also love that some of the teams’ names are nature-related! The Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals all feature birds, and ones that can be found right here in Georgia. You can even view a few of these birds in our Sky High exhibit, and if you’re lucky, you could spot one in the wild – in WildWoods or Fernbank Forest.

Other teams, such as the Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and the Arizona Diamondbacks feature animals in their name. While you won’t find a tiger or marlin in the museum, you can view a Manta Ray, Bear and a Diamondback in our A Walk Through Time in Georgia exhibit. Hopefully you don’t encounter any of these in the forest, though ☺

We also love movies here at Fernbank. Our Giant Screen Theater hosts an array of nature and culture-related films, including Superpower Dogs, now playing. Although none of the dogs in this movie play baseball, there are plenty of other baseball-related movies to get you excited for All-Star Week.
