Fernbank Museum to Host Fundraising Gala, A Timeless Affair 2017: Gladiators, In Celebration of 25th Anniversary

ATLANTA, July X, 2017 – Fernbank Museum of Natural History will host its annual black-tie fundraising gala, A Timeless Affair 2017: Gladiators – "What we do now echoes in eternity," on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in celebration of the Museum's 25th anniversary. The evening's electrifying theme will highlight the new special exhibition, Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum, and will honor Paul Bowers, President and CEO of Georgia Power, and his wife, Karen. In addition to the lavish experience of live and silent auctions, sunset cocktail hour, seated dinner, live music and dancing, this year's gala will also introduce an after party for young professionals, Time After Timeless. Guests of the after party will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, desserts, karaoke and more.

Event chair Cynthia Widner Wall is planning a magical evening to commemorate Fernbank's 25 years of immersive natural history experiences. Fernbank's Great Hall will transform into a majestic arena inspired by the beauty of Ancient Rome for the seated dinner, featuring delicious cuisine by Legendary Events and captivating décor presented by Tony Brewer & Co.. The gala will feature two musical guests – The Rupert's Orchestra, playing genre-spanning music from Top 40 hits to Motown and Blues, and Rock Mayhem, known for their energetic live band karaoke performances. Throughout the evening, patrons will have the chance to win luxury items, as well as one-of-a-kind experiences and fabulous trips in the silent and live auctions.
Fernbank's rich history will be commemorated at this year's A Timeless Affair with the celebration of the new special exhibition, Gladiators: Heroes of the Colosseum. Building on the larger-than-life legends of gladiators, the exhibit explores the world these athletes inhabited, from the regiment of training, discipline and constant peril, to the fame, wealth and freedom that greeted the very best gladiators. Guests of A Timeless Affair will discover the history and culture of one of Rome's most notable traditions in an enchanting atmosphere – with the common goal of raising funds to support the Museum's exhibitions, films and outdoor programs.

"I am honored to serve as chair of A Timeless Affair 2017: Gladiators. The 25-year history of Fernbank inspires me to make this year's gala truly timeless. I am delighted by the success of the partnership between Fernbank and PNC and the strides we have made to offer an exceptional educational experience," said Cynthia Widner Wall, senior vice president with PNC Wealth Management. "Fernbank's mission to encourage a greater appreciation of the planet and its inhabitants and PNC's philanthropic focus on helping each child reach their full potential are a powerful combination that, together, support a more vibrant community."
