Fernbank’s Annual Gala Celebrates Marco Polo with Venetian Masquerade
ATLANTA—Fernbank Museum of Natural History will host its annual signature black-tie gala, A Timeless Affair 2013: Marco Polo’s Venetian Masquerade on Saturday, October 5 at 7 p.m. The evening, which is also the museum’s 21st anniversary, will honor the dedicated support of Carter and Hampton Morris.
Event Chairs, Molly and Kip Lynch, and Deborah and Bruce Miller, invite guests to an enchanting masked ball featuring a sunset cocktail hour, dramatic décor by Tony Brewer, a seated “Venetian Feast” dinner by Affairs to Remember Caterers, silent and live auctions, dancing, live music by Livin’ Large, and a private viewing of Marco Polo: Man & Myth.
Marco Polo’s Venetian Masquerade draws inspiration from this incredible exhibition highlighting the iconic 13th-century chronicles of the “ultimate adventure traveler.” Follow Marco Polo’s adventures along the Silk Road through a collection of more than 80 rare objects from museums and private collections throughout Italy. This stunning exhibition reveals the many cultural influences and customs he observed, highlights the impact of exchanging ideas along the Silk Road, and sheds light on his encounters inside the Mongol Empire.
All proceeds from A Timeless Affair 2013: Marco Polo’s Venetian Masqueradewill help Fernbank further its educational mission through exceptional special exhibitions, critically-acclaimed IMAX® films, and innovative cultural and science-enrichment programs that encourage a profound appreciation for our planet and its inhabitants.
