In addition to a wide array of exhibitions and IMAX® offerings, Fernbank Museum also hosts a variety of special programs for children and families and for adults. Check out the list below or use our searchable calendar of events.
Children's and Family Programs
FERNBANK FOREST BIRD WALK
Saturday, October 10 from 9am – 11:30am
Join an Atlanta Audubon Society volunteer and discover more about the feathered inhabitants of Fernbank Forest, both permanent residents and visitors. This program is excellent for beginning birders or those desiring gentle terrain.
Saturday, October 10 from 10am - 2pm
Prepare for an epic robot revolution and join us for a fun-filled day investigating the capabilities of these bionic beings. Interact with live robots and enjoy a host of games and activities.
FERNBANK FOREST NIGHT WALK
Friday, October 23 from 6pm – 8pm
Experience the unique nocturnal world that awakens at dusk. Listen for owl and frog calls, search for bats using a special echolocation detector, find organisms that glow under UV light, and much more. Suitable for ages 8 and up.
FERNBANK BOOSEUM TRICK-OR-TREAT
Saturday, October 24 from 10am – 2pm
Ghosts, goblins, princesses and pirates are invited to Fernbank BOO-seum for a safe and not scary trick-or-treating event featuring costumed characters, music, games and more. Special treats for kids in costumes.
Offered monthly on select weekends
This monthly program features a story and a special activity or song led by a Fernbank educator. Perfect for preschoolers. Dates and topics change monthly. Please refer to the Calendar of Events for specific listings.
Offered at noon on the second Saturday of each month, September-May
Join us in Fernbank NatureQuest for exciting tales about the natural world with Rob Cleveland, Fernbank's storyteller-in-residence. This program is suitable for children ages 3 and up.
Weekends in the Naturalist Center
Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities every weekend in the Naturalist Center. Activities vary from animal encounters to science explorations and more, and will be available every weekend. Check the activity sign when you arrive to see what's happening. Included with Museum admission. Free for members.
LYNSEY ADDARIO LECTURE
Monday, October 26, 2015 at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm)
Hear from award-winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario in this special lecture featured as part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. Her photographs focus on humanitarian and human rights issues across the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa for The New York Times, National Geographic, and Time Magazine. Addario is one of 11 photographers featured in the special exhibition Women of Vision.
MARTINIS & IMAX® FRIGHT NIGHT
Friday, October 30 from 7pm – 11pm
Make plans to join us for a NSFW (Not Suitable for Wimps) Halloween party at Fernbank’s Martinis & IMAX®. Enjoy bone-rattling live music, a devilishly-delicious drink menu, a hideously-hilarious costume contest and enough fun to wake the dead.
Salsa DANCE Night
Every 3rd Friday during Martinis & IMAX® from 7pm – 11pm
Monthly Salsa Dance Nights bring Salsambo Dance Studio to Martinis & IMAX®, offering incredible opportunities to enjoy Latin dancing (or appreciating the dance skills of others) with early-evening lessons for those who want a little practice before they heat up the dance floor. A special guest DJ provides the rhythmic beats. Standard Martinis & IMAX® ticket prices apply.
Fernbank's Martinis & IMAX®
Fridays,* from 7pm – 11pm
