Marketing & Communications Intern
Job Description
Fernbank Museum seeks an intern to assist the Marketing & Communications department in day-to-day marketing and public relations activities. This internship is structured to provide the intern with valuable, real-world experience.
Interns are asked to work at least 10–15 hours per week during the current semester and must receive academic credit. During the course of the internship, the intern will gain familiarity with the various departmental functions within the Museum, gain a greater understanding of a non-profit environment and create items to build a portfolio.
The intern must be detail-oriented, able to handle multiple projects, possess strong writing skills and/or design skills and have an interest in non-profit communications.
Upon completion of the internship, the intern will complete a written evaluation of the program and the intern’s supervisor will complete a written evaluation of the intern’s abilities and progress. If appropriate, the supervisor may be used as a reference for future job searches.
Responsibilities
- Maintain media clip notebook and make copies as needed for sponsors, archives, etc.
- Assist with publicity mailings
- Assemble press kits
- Develop and pitch story ideas to members of the media and follow up as necessary
- Assist with writing and editing copy for publicity materials (releases, brochures, newsletters, etc.)
- Brainstorm and implement cross-promotional opportunities to increase Museum’s visibility
- Participate in department meetings
- Assist with special events and film/exhibit previews as needed
- Assist with miscellaneous projects as needed
