F.U.N. Program Intern

Job Description
The role of the F.U.N. Program Intern is to supervise, mentor and evaluate Fernbank Ultimate Naturalist (FUN) youth volunteers and organize their daily routine.

Duties

  1. Work with Museum Education and Exhibition staff to develop and execute Museum orientation and initial training for FUN volunteers.
  2. Conduct the morning and afternoon FUN volunteer training sessions to include education on each Museum exhibition/feature.
  3. Reinforce science/natural history content of FUN volunteer roles to both individual volunteers and small groups of volunteers.
  4. Offer appropriate ongoing guidance to both individual volunteers and small groups of volunteers, focusing on presentation skills, strategies to improve competence and build confidence, the importance of good manners, a neat appearance, and the provision of good customer service.
  5. Reinforce the responsibilities of FUN volunteers, the Code of Conduct and important museum information (IMAX® show times, hours, admission prices).
  6. Arrange FUN volunteer break times & oversee lunch times.
  7. Complete brief performance evaluations with FUN volunteers during or at the end of each shift until they reach 25 hours of service.
  8. Assess and evaluate the success of the FUN program through a combination of written survey and verbal questionnaires. Recommend program changes to management team.
  9. Coordinate special FUN program activities and field trips.
  10. Provide administrative support for all departmental programs.

Required Skills

  1. Prior experience supervising and instructing youth aged 11 to 17 in an educational setting.
  2. Enjoy working with youth aged 11 to 17.
  3. Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Show excellent organizational skills.
  5. Have a demonstrated interest in science and natural history.
