Fernbank Museum Announces Lost Oasis: Swamp Romp
ATLANTA—The bayous and swamplands of the south will help set the tone for Lost Oasis: Swamp Romp, Fernbank Museum’s annual fundraiser. The summer party will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight and is hosted by Artemis, the Museum’s young professional guild. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the BONES (Building on Experiences in Science) for Kids fund to enrich children’s programming at Fernbank Museum.
This year’s event takes its cue from the large-format film, Hurricane on the Bayou, showing in Fernbank’s IMAX® Theatre through June 30, 2007, and from the special exhibition Lizards & Snakes: Alive!, on view through August 12, 2007.
Highlights for Swamp Romp include live music by Kingsized who will perform some toe-tapping blues, performances by the Dames Aflame, a spectacular silent auction and prize drawing, open bars featuring “Stick in the Mud” Martinis and “Chameleon Kisses,” Southern-inspired cuisine from Avenue Catering Concepts and decadent indulgences in the dessert room.
The 2007 event chairs are Zaida and Jorge Fuenzalida and Claire-Marie and Will Huff. Honorary chairs are Elizabeth and Shane Hornbuckle, long-time friends of Fernbank Museum. Elizabeth helped form the Artemis Guild, which hosts Lost Oasis each year. She and Shane continue a family tradition of supporting Fernbank Museum—Elizabeth’s great-grandmother was a Fernbank, Inc. founding Trustee, her grandmother served as a Museum volunteer, her great-aunt was honored by the Museum with The Martha Hodgson Ellis Children’s Discovery Rooms, and her father is a Trustee Emeritus.
Tickets are $75 for members and $100 for non-members.For information on how you can become a Patron Donor or Host Committee Member, please contact Cara Lee at 404.929.6404 or cara.lee@fernbankmuseum.org.
