New Members Named to the Artemis Board at Fernbank Museum
New members bring enthusiasm and expertise for 2007
ATLANTA—Fernbank Museum of Natural History is pleased to announce the newest members of the Artemis Guild Board, which guides initiatives for the Artemis volunteer guild of young professionals at the Museum. Accepting a two-year term on the board are Lesley and Chris Baradel, Jason Beach, Sarah Clamp, Mark DeLorenzo, Michele Cacdac Jones and Patrick Jones, Christopher Reed, Samantha Rein and Scott Miller, Elizabeth and Larry Sommerfeld, and Ulises “Lu” Walker.
The Artemis guild provides a unique opportunity for Atlanta's young professionals to get involved in the community. From spectacular social events to rewarding volunteer projects, members unite in their appreciation of the natural world and human culture through Fernbank Museum. Artemis also hosts Lost Oasis, the annual June fundraiser which has become one of Atlanta’s most anticipated benefit events. The proceeds from Lost Oasis benefit BONES for Kids (Building on Experiences in Science for Kids), a fund earmarked for providing children’s programming at the Museum.
The new board members include:
Chris Baradel is an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Co. His wife, Lesley, is currently pursuing her Master’s in Nutrition from Georgia State University. Actively involved with charitable and social organizations in Atlanta, they began their involvement with Artemis the Museum by attending Lost Oasis for several years and decided to increase their commitment to the Museum through the Artemis board. The couple resides in Atlanta.
Jason Beach is an attorney with Hunton & Williams LLP. He is involved with several volunteer organizations, including the Guardian Ad Litem Project, AID Atlanta and Race for the Cure. Jason attended Lost Oasis for the first time last year and is eager to be a part of Fernbank and the Artemis Board.
Sarah Clamp is an Audit Senior Manager with Ernst and Young. Sarah recently relocated from Orlando, where she was active in her community, serving as the Ernst and Young Orlando office United Way coordinator and as treasurer for the Orange County School Board Charter School, and as a volunteer for Junior Achievement.
Mark DeLorenzo is the Assistant Treasurer for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation. He is a member of Northside United Methodist Church and is a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He resides in Atlanta with his wife and two sons.
Michele Cacdac Jones is the director of marketing and communications for the Hands on Network. Her husband, Patrick Jones, is the executive vice president and executive producer of Journey Productions and a partner with The Nour Group. The couple resides in Atlanta.
Christopher Reed is the Vice President, Strategic Development for ChoicePoint Government Services. He is an active member of his community and is involved with the Northside United Methodist Preschool Parents Association, the Springlake Civic Association, and his alma mater, Emory University. He resides in Atlanta with his wife and their two children.
Samantha Rein is a Litigation Attorney with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. She is active in her community, serving as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the “Everybody Wins” reading program at Cook Elementary School. Samantha is also a mentor in the “21st Century Scholars” program and is a former member of the board of Peachtree Atlanta Kiwanis Club.
Her husband, Scott Miller, is employed by Delta Air Lines and also volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. The couple resides in Atlanta.
Elizabeth Sommerfeld is a Six Sigma Black Belt certified consultant with EarthLink. She serves as the communications chairperson for the Morningside Lenox Park Association and is a member of the Carter Center and ALTA. She and her husband, Larry, are long-time friends of Fernbank Museum and served as co-chairs for Lost Oasis: Search for the Golden Ticket in 2006.
Ulises “Lu” Walker is an Associate Interest Rate Derivatives Trader with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey. He is a volunteer at Egleston Children’s Hospital and is a member of the ALTA and USTA Tennis leagues. He resides in Atlanta.
