Rainforest takes center stage at Earth Day celebration
Fernbank’s annual event takes inspiration from Amazon
ATLANTA—Celebrate the beauty and diversity of the world around us at Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 22. This year’s event, inspired by the large-format film, Amazon, focuses on the rainforest and its inhabitants.
Earth Day offers a variety of activities, including live animal encounters, craft activities and a musical puppet show to share what makes the rainforest habitat so unique and important to our ecosystem. You’ll also have the chance to learn how to create a tropical-style getaway in your own backyard using plants native to Georgia courtesy of Habersham Gardens.
Amazon takes you on a journey of discovery of the Amazon River's wonders, inhabitants and remarkable healing powers. Travel through the Amazon region, from the river’s source high in the Andes and through rainforests across South America, where you’ll also encounter an exotic menagerie of animals, including the jaguar, tapir, pipa frog and sloth.
Earth Day activities are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include:
- Rainforest Mural coloring activity
- Earth Day Craft Activity
- Hopping Habitats Game
