Guidelines for Outdoor Programming

Here are a few helpful tips for exploring the great outdoors with Fernbank Museum!

For All Outdoor Programs

  • Please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required and long pants and hats are recommended.
  • All guests are encouraged to apply sunscreen and insect repellent prior to the start of the program.
  • The forest is home to stinging insects, poison ivy and snakes. Guests will be required to stay on the trails, as guided by Fernbank Museum staff.
  • Please inform us of any insect or plant allergies that would require immediate care in the event of contact.
  • Please stay with the group at all times.

For Nature Walks

  • Strollers are not permitted due to the terrain.
  • We are currently engaged in a comprehensive stewardship and master plan for Fernbank property which includes an assessment of site accessibility. At this time, the hillside terrain closest to the Museum may present challenges for visitors with limited mobility or special needs.
  • Most of the paths are best suited for those who can walk for at least 1 mile or 30-40 minutes without assistance.
  • Restrooms, water fountains and other facilities are available inside the Museum.
