Explosive Earth: Volcanoes & Earthquakes
Life Science

Witness the awesome power of planet Earth and learn what goes on miles beneath the surface. Discover what makes massive slabs of rock move—often with explosive force—and find out how these sometimes destructive events have helped shape our planet. Students learn what drives these geologic events and about the role of plate tectonics through demonstrations, discussion and video.

First Georgians
Human Culture

Inspired by the permanent exhibition First Georgians, this program examines the first human residents of Georgia and considers how these populations met their basic needs, organized society and expanded their sphere of influence. Students will also learn how modern archaeologists piece together bits of information to gain a better understanding of cultures that arose over 12,000 years ago.

Remarkable Reptiles and Amazing Amphibians
Life Science

During the special exhibition Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, September 19, 2007 – January 6, 2008, Remarkable Reptiles also takes a look at amphibians, another fascinating group of cold-blooded animals. Learn the science of Herpetology—the study of reptiles and amphibians—and discover similarities and differences between the two groups. Students will learn through photographs, video, biofacts and live specimens.

Remarkable Reptiles

Uncover the truth about some of the world’s most misunderstood animals—reptiles. This up-close look at a few fascinating cold-blooded creatures is a clever way to illustrate to students why reptiles should be respected, not feared.

Reflections of Culture
Human Culture

Explore world cultures through an examination of personal ornamentation, including jewelry, costumes and body modification. This program gives students a better understanding of cultural diversity and how people use personal ornamentation to communicate social, political and economic information about themselves and the societies in which they live.
