Whales Opening Day Celebration

Saturday, February 15 from 10am – 2pm

You’ll have a whale of a time at the grand opening celebration of Fernbank’s newest special exhibition Whales: Giants of the Deep

Scheduled Activities*

Whales: Giants of the Deep Exhibition
10am – 5pm, Self-guided
Featuring a unique blend of science and culture, this interactive exhibition is filled with whale songs, beautiful artifacts, enormous whale skeletons up to 58-feet-long, and unique experiences such as climbing through a life-sized model of a whale heart as big as a car. 

Juvenile Right Whale Inflatable
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Take your picture beside a 22-foot-long North Atlantic right whale replica, and learn why Georgia is considered critical habitat for this endangered animal. 

Whale Origami Craft
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Create and color your own whale to take home with you.

Whale Coloring Stations
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Learn about whales through crayon rubbings and colorings at a series of interactive stations.

Georgia Bubbleman
11am – 2pm, Dinosaur Plaza
Enjoy an interactive demonstration with bubbles of all sizes, including bubbles inside other bubbles and bubbles ranging from tiny to some as big as the juvenile Lophorhothon in the Dinosaur Plaza. And you thought humpback whales were good at bubble netting!

Journey to the South Pacific
10am, noon, 2pm, 4pm, Fernbank’s IMAX® Theatre
Double your adventure by adding tickets to this new film and discover an extraordinary world above and below the sea. Requires an additional ticket purchase. 

Cost: Unless noted, all Whales Opening Day Celebration activities are included with Museum admission and are free for members
