Marco Polo: Man & Myth
Opening Day Celebration

Fernbank’s new special exhibition, Marco Polo: Man & Myth, follows the journey of history’s ultimate travel adventurer through a collection of cultural artifacts illustrating his epic excursion along the Silk Road.

Enjoy a taste of the Silk Road at this special event featuring some of the sights, sounds and tastes.

Live Baby Camel Display
10 am-noon, Dinosaur Plaza
Meet a live, baby camel just like those Marco Polo encountered in his journey through The Middle East.

Taste of the Silk Road
10 am-2 pm, Great Hall
Enjoy a taste from regions Marco Polo explored, featuring samples by Bhojanic, and Saba (while supplies last).

Silk Road Crafts
10 am-2 pm, Great Hall
Children are invited to make their own Silk Road medallion passports and Chinese drums.

Fernbank Mascot
10 am-2 pm, Great Hall
Say hello to Fernbank’s mascot, Giggy A. Dinosaur!

Lion Dance and Kung Fu Performance
10:30 am and 12:30 pm, Great Hall
Enjoy performances of traditional Chinese lion and dragon dances, as well as the unique performing art of Kung Fu.

Falconer Demonstration
11 am and 1 pm, Auditorium (limited seating)
Learn about one of Marco Polo’s many experiences in the Mongol Empire as you witness the tradition of falconry with Medieval Times and a live bird of prey.

New Mobile Experience
10 am-5 pm
Use your smart phone to discover exclusive details about Marco Polo’s travels by accessing Fernbank’s new mobile experience. Text MarcoPolo to 99-000 for free access.
