City Nature Challenge Bird and Plant Walk in Fernbank Forest

Friday, April 26, 2024 5:30 PM — 8:00 PM

Join Birds Georgia Habitat Program Manager, Gabe Andrle, on an evening hike through the 65 acres of Fernbank Museum’s old-growth forest to look for and document a wide array of bird and plant life. The City Nature Challenge is a global effort to document biodiversity while connecting people to nature using the iNaturalist app. The hike will take participants from the museum, through WildWoods and into Fernbank Forest, where we will encounter giant tulip poplar and oak trees, a variety of pollinator friendly plants and everything in between.

Difficulty Level: Moderate — uneven forested terrain

All ages are welcome. Program is held rain or shine but may be canceled in cases of severe weather. Space is limited to 20 people and reservations are required.

Please be prepared for the weather and for walking unpaved and uneven trails. We recommend participants bring binoculars, field guides and water. Once the walk begins, participants must remain with the group for the duration of the program. This walk is not suitable for strollers.

This program is FREE for Fernbank Museum members and Birds Georgia members.
